Premier League considering closing the transfer window earlier
Premier League clubs will discuss this Thursday the possibility of closing the summer transfer window two days before the league begins. According to the British newspaper "The Telegraph", the teams will debate this proposal at the upcoming monthly Premier League meeting. If put to a vote, it would require the approval of 14 out of the 20 clubs to go ahead.
If this measure is implemented, managers would benefit from having clarity on the squad they will have at the start of the season, avoiding disruptions in the early matches due to possible player arrivals or departures.
Concerns about international markets
On the other hand, there are concerns that Premier League clubs could be at a disadvantage when negotiating if their transfer window closes before the rest of the European leagues, especially the Saudi league, which has spent over 1 billion euros in the last two years and presents a significant challenge in retaining talent in European competitions.
Measure previously adopted
This measure was previously implemented in 2018 and 2019 when the window closed before the start of the season. However, the idea was abandoned after the impact of COVID-19, as clubs felt this policy put them at a disadvantage compared to other markets.
The Premier League 2025-2026 season will begin on August 16, and this potential change in the transfer window could have a significant impact on teams' planning.
