Van Dijk Follows in Salah’s Footsteps at Liverpool
Liverpool has announced the contract extension of Virgil Van Dijk until 2027
Little by little, Liverpool has successfully managed to secure the renewals of the two pillars on which the club still stands following Jürgen Klopp’s departure from Anfield last summer. Just one week after confirming the extension of Mohamed Salah, Liverpool has now announced a renewal agreement with Virgil Van Dijk through 2027.

Van Dijk extends with Liverpool until 2027
The feeling surrounding both players at the start of the season was one of farewell, making way for a new era at Anfield with the arrival of Arne Slot. In fact, both Salah and Van Dijk had been seriously linked with several teams in the Saudi Pro League. Salah was Al-Hilal’s dream to find the star that Neymar never became… and Van Dijk was Al-Nassr’s obsession to strengthen the team captained by Cristiano Ronaldo.
The truth is, the arrival of Arne Slot at Anfield, as Virgil Van Dijk himself acknowledged months ago, was a complete unknown: “I’m very curious to see what direction the club will take, but once it’s announced, we’ll see where we stand.” However, as the season progressed, Van Dijk realized that the transition from Klopp’s era at Anfield has been virtually seamless… and he has once again become the defensive leader holding the project together.
“The other day someone called me a ‘scouser by adoption’”
After Salah’s renewal was announced, various media outlets in England reported that an agreement to extend Van Dijk’s current contract, which was set to expire in June 2025, would be made official in the coming weeks… and it came less than a week later. In fact, he confirmed after the loss to Fulham that progress had been made in the negotiations… and his goal celebration against West Ham, which secured victory for Liverpool, was the early confirmation of his renewal.
An overwhelming joy that Van Dijk himself emphasized during his contract extension event with Liverpool: “I’m very happy, very proud. It’s a feeling of pride, of joy. It’s incredible. Being able to continue the journey I’ve had so far in my career, with another two years at this club, is incredible and I’m really happy. It was always Liverpool. It was always like that. It was always in my head, always the plan, and it was always Liverpool. There was never any doubt in my mind that this is the place for me and my family. I’m one of Liverpool’s own. The other day someone called me a ‘scouser by adoption.’ I’m very proud to hear that, it makes me feel really good.”
