Aston Villa Remain Unstoppable With Ninth Straight Victory
Led by Unai Emery, the Villans come from behind twice, defeat West Ham, and stay firmly in the Premier League title race.
Aston Villa continue to enjoy a remarkable run of form. On Sunday, Unai Emery’s side claimed their ninth consecutive victory across all competitions with an entertaining win over West Ham in a match filled with drama, comebacks and defensive errors. The result keeps the Villans in third place in the Premier League, just three points behind league leaders Arsenal, and firmly in the title conversation.
A Chaotic Start and an Immediate Response
The match could not have started worse for Aston Villa. Just 31 seconds into the game, a costly mistake from Ezri Konsa allowed Brazilian midfielder Mateus Fernandes to steal possession inside the box and finish calmly past Marco Bizot, who started in goal due to the absence of Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez. The early goal stunned the home crowd and forced Emery’s men to chase the game from the opening moments.
The response was swift. In the ninth minute, the score was levelled when Konstantinos Mavropanos turned the ball into his own net while attempting to clear a dangerous cross from Crysencio Summerville. The equalizer settled Aston Villa, who began to assert greater control and push forward with confidence.
However, West Ham struck again before halftime. A deflected effort saw Jarrod Bowen redirect a shot from Freddie Potts, restoring the visitors’ lead and sending Villa into the break trailing once more.
Morgan Rogers Leads the Comeback
After the interval, Aston Villa raised the intensity and found their breakthrough through Morgan Rogers. The British forward finished off a well-delivered cross from Youri Tielemans to bring the hosts back on level terms. Rogers was not done there. He soon produced a stunning long-range strike that flew into the top corner, completing the comeback and igniting celebrations around the stadium.
The performance underlined Villa’s mental strength and resilience. Since their 2–0 defeat to Liverpool on November 1, the Villans have been flawless, stringing together an impressive winning streak under Unai Emery.
With this victory, Aston Villa remain third in the table, just three points off the summit, while West Ham, winless since November 8, stay rooted in the relegation zone with only 13 points. As the season progresses, Villa’s momentum continues to build, fueling belief that something special could be unfolding in Birmingham.
