Carlos Baleba Is Now a Manchester United Player: The Red Devils Complete Their Midfield Revolution With the Cameroonian

  • Manchester United have officially signed Carlos Baleba from Brighton. The Cameroonian midfielder signs through 2031 and becomes a key piece of the club’s midfield rebuild.

Manchester United Finds Its New Midfield Bet in Carlos Baleba

Manchester United confirmed the signing of Carlos Baleba, who arrives from Brighton & Hove Albion to become one of the key pieces in the club's midfield rebuild. The 22-year-old Cameroon international has signed a contract through 2031, with an option to extend it for an additional season.

According to information provided by sources close to the team, the Old Trafford side agreed to an initial fee of around $81.8 million, plus potential add-ons. Other reports put the total value of the deal at around $95 million, depending on the bonuses included in the agreement.

United had already signed Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos during this transfer window, making it clear that the midfield has become one of the club's top priorities.

From Brighton Prospect to Manchester United's Big-Money Signing

Baleba joined Brighton in 2023 from Lille, after making just 23 appearances for the French side. In England, he quickly began building a reputation as one of the most promising young midfielders in the Premier League.

During his three seasons with Brighton, the Cameroonian made 112 appearances in all competitions, becoming a regular part of the squad.

These qualities were among the reasons why Manchester United decided to bet on him. The team needed a player capable of helping defensively, winning the ball back and giving more strength to a midfield that has struggled in recent years.

Wayne Rooney Defends Baleba and Responds to His Critics

The signing comes after a difficult season for the Cameroonian. Following Manchester United's interest during the previous transfer window, his performances at Brighton raised questions, with some critics suggesting that he had lost focus.

However, Wayne Rooney came to the defense of United's new signing and rejected the idea that Baleba simply disappeared from the radar after his move to Old Trafford failed to materialize.

"I don't think he went missing," Rooney said when discussing the midfielder. The former Manchester United striker also highlighted that Baleba has the qualities needed to significantly improve the team.

Rooney particularly praised his physicality, aggression, ability to cover ground and ability to receive the ball, qualities he believes are important for a team that needs a stronger presence in midfield.

A Key Piece in United's Midfield Revolution

Following the departure of Casemiro and the injury problems affecting Manuel Ugarte, the club needed to add more options and find new solutions to play alongside Bruno Fernandes.

United is also not betting on a veteran player arriving to provide an immediate short-term solution. Baleba is 22 years old and under contract through 2031, meaning the deal also represents an investment in the future.

The midfielder suffered an ankle ligament injury during preseason, although reports from England indicate that the issue should not keep him sidelined for an extended period.
