Fofana and the call for stability
The French defender Wesley Fofana was clear when talking about Chelsea's present: "I think everyone knows that we need stability. We talked about it last season with the directors and they said the same thing. They think the same as the players. We need stability," he declared to the BBC. His words reflect the sentiment of a team that, after years of constant changes, seeks to regain order and continuity under the leadership of Xabi Alonso, the new coach for the 2026-27 season.
Since BlueCo took control of the club in 2022, the Blues have spent over £1 billion on signings and have gone thru nine different managers. The last coach to manage two consecutive campaigns was Antonio Conte, between 2016 and 2018, during which they also won their last Premier League.
