Critical Days for Arne Slot at Liverpool After Six Defeats in Seven Matches
Liverpool is living through tense days as Arne Slot once again finds himself at the center of attention during the club’s most delicate moment since Klopp’s departure.
A Landscape That Has Shifted Completely
Just a few months ago, Arne Slot was Liverpool’s man of the moment. Not only had he achieved the monumental task of replacing Jürgen Klopp, but he also guided the team to the 2024–25 Premier League title, matching Manchester United’s historic record of 20 English league championships. The feeling was clear: a new era had begun at Anfield.
But that euphoria has evaporated at lightning speed. This season has delivered a harsh reality check: six defeats in their last seven Premier League matches, an unexpected collapse that has dragged the reigning champions down to 11th place. The 3–0 loss at Anfield to Nottingham Forest, with club chairman Tom Werner watching from the stands, left a sense of breakdown that set off every alarm.
Results That Erode Confidence
Although the club insists there is no talk of an imminent dismissal —after all, Slot earned huge credit with his brilliant first season— the pressure is increasingly undeniable. As the BBC notes, these six recent league losses match the total suffered in his previous 58 matches in charge of Liverpool. Even more alarming: the team has lost its last three home games, the same number as in the previous 53 at Anfield.
The contrast is stark. During their title-winning campaign, Liverpool looked almost indestructible: compact, intense, aggressive in every line. Today, despite €483 million spent on signings, the team appears vulnerable, disorganized, and stripped of its competitive identity.
A Manager Facing a Defining Test
For now, the board maintains its trust in Slot. They believe sacking him could worsen the situation and that the Dutch coach still has room to turn things around. But that trust has limits, and each match feels heavier than the last. Slot must restore defensive solidity, reignite the team’s intensity, and make sharper decisions in key moments.
At present, Slot looks like a shadow of the coach who won over the fanbase with personality and tactical bravery. And the next test will not be easy: PSV visits Anfield this Wednesday in the league phase of the Champions League, a match that could signal the start of a recovery… or deepen the crisis.
