Ipswich Town 1-2 Wolves: Sarabia stars in comeback to boost survival hopes
Wolves moved 12 points clear of the Premier League relegation zone after coming from behind to beat Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
Pablo Sarabia came off the bench to orchestrate a 2-1 comeback win for Wolves against Ipswich Town at Portman Road, taking them 12 points clear of their opponents.
Ipswich looked set to close the gap above the relegation zone to just six points when Liam Delap gave them the lead in the first half.
He latched onto Dara O'Shea's nod down in the six-yard box to slot a cool finish through Jose Sa's legs, with the goal standing following a VAR review.
Alex Palmer made great saves to deny Jorgen Strand Larsen and Toti but gave Wolves their clearest opening of the first half with a moment to forget.
He almost allowed a backpass to roll in and had to claw it away, giving the visitors an indirect free-kick six yards out, but Sam Morsy threw himself in the way of Emmanuel Agbadou’s shot.
Joao Gomes also rattled the post shortly after the break, but Sarabia's 65th-minute introduction turned the game around, as he nestled the equaliser into the bottom corner less than 10 minutes later.
He then set up Strand Larsen's winner, putting it on a plate for the forward to bundle in from close range to seal a potentially decisive three points in the relegation battle.
Ipswich now appear destined to return to the Championship, and the result also means Southampton will be relegated if they lose at Tottenham on Sunday.
Data Debrief: Wolves pull clear of danger
It looked like it could be one of those days for Wolves, who had 22 shots worth 2.75 expected goals (xG), but they finally found a way through late on.
They have now won three consecutive matches in the Premier League for the first time since December 2023, while they have won three successive away games in the competition for the first time since a run of four in February 2022.
Sarabia was the key to their turnaround - he has now both scored and assisted in a Premier League match for just the second time, after also doing so against Spurs in November 2023.
As for Ipswich, they have lost each of their last six home league games, which is their longest losing streak on home soil in the top four tiers since November 1963.
