Klopp congratulates Slot's Liverpool on Premier League title win
Jurgen Klopp has taken to Instagram to commend Liverpool after they won their second Premier League title under his successor Arne Slot.
Liverpool have been congratulated on their Premier League title triumph by their former manager Jurgen Klopp, who believes this is just the start for Arne Slot's Reds.
Klopp called time on his glittering spell at Anfield last season after almost nine years at the helm, with Slot having big shoes to fill when he replaced the German.
But Slot's first campaign at the helm has been a roaring success, with Liverpool sealing their second Premier League title win – and their record-equalling 20th English top-flight crown overall – by thumping Tottenham 5-1 on Sunday.
With four games left to play, Liverpool's title win is the joint-fourth earliest in the Premier League era.
Klopp's Reds hold the record with their 2019-20 triumph coming with seven games remaining, while Manchester City in 2017-18 and Manchester United in 2000-01 both won the title with five games to play.
Slot paid tribute to his predecessor when speaking to Liverpool TV in the aftermath of Sunday's win, and Klopp has now taken to social media to congratulate the Reds.
He wrote on Instagram: "Super grateful for the past, super, super happy about the present, extremely positive about the future!
"Congratulations – YNWA. Thank You Luv!"
Slot is the fifth manager to win the Premier League title in his maiden season in the competition, not counting the inaugural campaign.
He follows Jose Mourinho (Chelsea, 2004-05), Carlo Ancelotti (Chelsea, 2009-10), Manuel Pellegrini (Man City, 2013-14) and Antonio Conte (Chelsea, 2016-17).
His team have averaged 2.41 points per game in the Premier League so far this campaign. Across his 334 top-flight matches with Liverpool, Klopp averaged 2.11.
And while Klopp faced the task of rebuilding Liverpool's squad after taking charge in October 2015, in only three of his eight full seasons did the Reds manage more points per game than Slot's team have this season – in 2021-22 (2.42), 2018-19 (2.55), and when winning the title in 2019-20 (2.60).
