Tottenham Snatch Dramatic Late Draw at Manchester United, but Both Sides Face Premier League Struggles

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur played out a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Matchday 6 of the 2026-27 Premier League season, in a game defined by missed chances, heated exchanges between players, a red card, and a dramatic late equalizer that denied the hosts all three points.

MBEUMO PUTS UNITED AHEAD AS BENTANCUR IS SENT OFF

After a goalless first half, Manchester United took the lead in the 73rd minute when Bryan Mbeumo finished off a combination with Matheus Cunha. The Cameroonian forward turned sharply inside the box and fired a quick shot past goalkeeper Antonín Kinský.

Tensions boiled over five minutes later. In the 78th minute, Rodrigo Bentancur was shown a red card for a headbutt on Luke Shaw during a confrontation between players. The United defender was also booked, along with Jan Paul van Hecke, as protests and heated exchanges followed the incident.

With a man advantage, Michael Carrick's side appeared to have the result under control but failed to see out the game.

SOLANKE RESCUES TOTTENHAM WITH A STOPPAGE-TIME EQUALIZER

Just as Manchester United seemed poised to secure the victory, Tottenham found a late equalizer in the 90+2nd minute. Dominic Solanke converted a cross from Sandro Tonali to make it 1-1 and earn a point for Spurs despite playing with 10 men.

The result left both teams with mixed feelings. United missed an opportunity to claim all three points at home, while Tottenham scored their first away goal of the season and climbed off the bottom of the Premier League table.

Following Matchday 6, Manchester United remained in 12th place, while Tottenham moved up to 18th, still inside the relegation zone. The draw extended the questions surrounding both teams and capped a tense finale at Old Trafford.
