Luis Díaz Remembers Diogo Jota’s Tribute And Mourns His Loss
The Colombian winger paid his respects to his late teammate from Liverpool and recalled a heartfelt gesture during a personal crisis.
A Tribute That Will Never Be Forgotten
Luis Díaz, winger for Liverpool, expressed deep sorrow over the death of his teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away alongside his brother André in a car crash in Zamora, Spain. Through an emotional message on Instagram, the Colombian player remembered a powerful show of support from Jota during one of the darkest times of his life.
“I have no words... it hurts in my soul. Not just for what he was on the pitch, but for who he was off it. There are gestures one never forgets, and Diogo had one for me that I will carry with me forever,” wrote Díaz.
The gesture took place on October 29, 2023, when Jota scored the opening goal against Nottingham Forest and lifted a shirt honoring Díaz, whose father had been kidnapped the day before by the ELN guerrilla group. His father was later released on November 8 of that year.
A Tragedy That Shook The Football World
Diogo Jota, 28, and his brother André, 26, lost their lives early Thursday morning when their Lamborghini veered off the A52 highway under still unknown circumstances. Following the autopsy at the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Zamora, their bodies were transported back to Portugal.
The football world has reacted with shock and sadness, mourning not only the loss of a talented athlete but also a generous and compassionate individual.
“My heart is with Rute Cardoso, his wife, their three children, and the entire family. Rest in peace, Diogo and André,” concluded Luis Díaz, visibly moved by the tragedy that claimed the life of his friend and former teammate.
