Manchester City Unveil AI-Designed Jersey

  • Manchester City have officially unveiled their third kit for the 2026-27 season, and this time there is a very unique story behind the design.

The new jersey was not created solely from ideas developed by Puma or the club’s creative department: the fans themselves had the opportunity to take part in the process.

The kit was developed using Puma AI Creator, a generative artificial intelligence tool that transforms written prompts into visual designs. City supporters were able to use the platform to imagine how they wanted one of their team’s jerseys to look.

The response exceeded all expectations.

Fans from more than 200 countries submitted over 180,000 different designs, with approximately 1.7 million votes ultimately deciding which one would make it onto the pitch.

A Manchester City Fan Created the Winning Design

The winner was Elliott, a lifelong Manchester City supporter who created his concept using the artificial intelligence tool during his lunch break.

What began almost as an experiment eventually became part of the club’s history.

Elliott admitted that he never imagined his creation would eventually become an official kit and described the entire experience as surreal. He even had the opportunity to attend the photo shoot and see the players wearing the jersey he helped design for the first time.

His hope now is simple: that the kit connects with supporters and becomes one they remember for many years.

A Design That Brings Back Part of City’s History

The jersey features a white base accompanied by vertical sky blue and navy stripes, immediately incorporating some of Manchester City’s most recognizable colors.

The design also brings back memories of the third kit worn during the 2013-14 season, one of the most recognizable alternate jerseys from the period when Nike supplied the English club’s kits.

But beyond its appearance, what truly makes the jersey unique is the way it was created.

According to Puma, it is the first kit designed through a combination of fan creativity and artificial intelligence that will later be worn by a team on the pitch.

Manchester City Had Already Experimented With AI

This is not the first time Manchester City and Puma have used artificial intelligence to develop a jersey.

In 2025, several of the club’s players used the same tool to create a special limited-edition goalkeeper kit. Ederson, Stefan Ortega and Rico Lewis were involved in that initiative.

This time, however, the spotlight shifted directly to the supporters.

Among more than 180,000 submissions, Elliott’s idea was ultimately selected to complete Manchester City’s kit collection for the 2026-27 season.

A jersey created with artificial intelligence, chosen by the fans and designed by one of their own.

A different way of bringing a piece of the Manchester City fan base directly onto the pitch.
