Savinho expressed his gratitude to Pep Guardiola for the faith shown in him after extending his Manchester City stay on Friday.

The Brazilian has penned a new deal at the Etihad Stadium until 2031, with the option of a further year.

Savinho, who only joined from Troyes last year, already had a contract until 2029, but a two-year extension ensures his long-term future remains on the blue side of Manchester.

The 21-year-old had been subject to reported interest from Tottenham in the last transfer window, though Guardiola insisted he wanted the winger to stay for "many, many years".

"I am incredibly proud to be able to sign this new contract with City," Savinho said. "It's a very special feeling to know that Pep and the club have placed such faith in me.

"I feel I have so much improving to do. I am still young and very hungry to keep learning. But I know that working with Pep and his staff will help me to keep developing as a player.

"From the moment I first arrived, I have loved my time at City.

"I want to thank everyone here for their help so far, and I promise that I will give everything to try and help this amazing club achieve more success."

Only Bernardo Silva (70) created more chances for City than Savinho's 64 across all competitions last season.

Jeremy Doku (128) was also the only player to better Savinho's 86 successful dribbles, as Guardiola placed trust in the former Troyes player on both flanks.

He made 48 appearances across all competitions in his maiden season at the Etihad, scoring three goals and managing 13 assists.

His renewal comes after Erling Haaland, Ruben Dias, Rico Lewis and Nico O'Reilly all signed contract extensions with City in the past year.

"Savinho is still very young, but he has already demonstrated that he possesses the qualities needed to become a truly outstanding player," director of football Hugo Viana said.

"He has so many excellent attributes. His potential really is limitless."
