Tottenham 2-2 Bournemouth: Late Son penalty salvages hosts a point
Tottenham Hotspur left it late to salvage a draw against Bournemouth, with substitute Son Heung-min scoring an 84th-minute penalty.
Son Heung-min's late penalty saw Tottenham Hotspur recover from two goals down to snatch a 2-2 draw with high-flying Bournemouth on Sunday.
Bournemouth thought they had sealed another fine away win until Kepa Arrizabalaga brought down Son in the box, with the Spurs captain stepping up to score the spot-kick.
Marcus Tavernier put Andoni Iraola's side ahead three minutes before half-time, with his finish made simple by Milos Kerkez's driving run and sensational pinpoint delivery.
The Cherries thought they had doubled their lead when Justin Kluivert rounded off a swift counter-attack, but it was ruled out for an offside against Antoine Semenyo in the build-up.
But the visitors would go further ahead just after the hour when Kluivert's neat turn saw him play in Evanilson, who dinked the ball over the on-rushing Guglielmo Vicario.
Spurs, however, reduced the deficit just two minutes later when Pape Sarr's attempted cross looped over Kepa, with the visiting goalkeeper involved once again late on.
Kepa rushed out to claim the ball but instead clipped Son in the area, with the Spurs captain dusting himself down before converting from 12 yards to seal a share of the spoils.
Bournemouth missed the chance to close the gap on the top four but climbed one place to eighth, above Newcastle United on goal difference. Spurs, meanwhile, stay 13th.
Data Debrief: Spurs showcase powers of recovery
Spurs have endured a difficult time with injuries lately, but with many players returning, Ange Postecoglou now has the ability to affect the game from the bench, with his substitutions helping his side salvage a point on Sunday.
Indeed, their comeback was the 26th different time that Tottenham have been two or more goals behind in a Premier League match to go on and salvage at least a point (W9 D17). Only Manchester United (30) have done so on more occasions in the history of the competition.
Though Bournemouth will feel this is two points dropped, their impressive form on the road continued. Only Liverpool (35) and Arsenal (26, prior to playing Man Utd later on Sunday) have picked up more points away from home than the Cherries (23) in the Premier League this season.
In addition, only Liverpool (38) have scored more goals on the road than Bournemouth (30), with the Cherries netting 30 or more goals away from home in a single Premier League campaign for the first time ever this season.
