Tottenham edge out Wolves to sign Danso on loan-to-buy deal
Kevin Danso was believed to be on the verge of joining Wolves, but the Austria defender has instead joined Tottenham on an initial loan.
Tottenham have completed the signing of Lens defender Kevin Danso on loan with an obligation to buy, beating Wolves to the deal.
Austria international Danso was believed to be close to joining Wolves on Saturday, with Vitor Pereira's side looking to strengthen their backline ahead of Monday's transfer deadline.
However, Spurs hijacked the deal and will reportedly pay £21million to make Danso's stay in north London permanent at the end of the campaign.
Danso previously made 10 appearances in English football on loan at Southampton in 2019-20, but he made his name with Lens, making the Ligue 1 Team of the Season in 2022-23 as they qualified for the Champions League.
He will provide competition at centre-back, where Spurs have been without Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero due to injuries in recent weeks.
They also saw Radu Dragusin suffer a knock in Thursday's Europa League win over Elfsborg, leaving boss Ange Postecoglou desperate for reinforcements.
Danso's arrival comes after England international Fikayo Tomori reportedly rejected the chance to join Spurs on loan from AC Milan.
They also moved to bring in goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky last month and have been linked with moves for Bayern Munich attacker Mathys Tel and Southampton winger Tyler Dibling.
