Wolves' Semedo eyeing strong finish after sealing Premier League survival
Wolves welcome relegated Leicester City to Molineux on Saturday, hoping to make it six Premier League victories in a row.
Nelson Semedo urged his Wolves team-mates to keep pushing for the remaining five games of the season after securing Premier League survival at Old Trafford last Sunday.
Pablo Sarabia's stunning free-kick saw Wolves win 1-0, completing a league double over Manchester United for the first time since the 1979-80 campaign.
Since Vitor Pereira's first game in charge, only Liverpool (43), Arsenal (33), Newcastle United (33) and Manchester City (31) have won more Premier League points than Wolves (29).
"Obviously, we are relieved, but we want more, like we showed today, like we showed the last couple of games," Semedo said.
"We have won five games in a row, and we want to aim for more. Next game, I just want to tell the supporters to keep coming, to keep showing the love they're showing to us.
"It's been amazing. It's been amazing what we've been doing the last few months, and now we're safe. But we still have a month-and-a-half left, and it's not done for us.
"We have to keep looking higher in the table, we have to show ambition, show the passion we've shown since Vitor arrived, because we can still achieve some good things."
Wolves' opponents this weekend are Leicester City, whose relegation to the Championship was confirmed following a 1-0 defeat to league leaders Liverpool.
It has been a miserable season for the Foxes, though manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy believes his team's last two performances have shown signs of promise for the future.
"It's hard, it's a blow, but it's not something from today," Van Nistelrooy said shortly after his team's relegation at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.
"It's something we felt was coming. We never gave into it, we kept fighting always. When there's hope, we keep fighting, but now it's done and that hurts.
"As with last week's performance against Brighton, this week against Liverpool, we shifted the mindset and the targets and the objectives, to how we want to finish the season.
"Those are the two performances after we shifted the mindset to shape the future. We've been preparing ourselves for next season."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Wolves – Matheus Cunha
Leading up to the fixture at Molineux, the future of Wolves talisman Cunha has been a topic of conversation, with his eye-catching displays seeing him linked with a move away.
The Brazilian has scored 14 Premier League goals this season – the only Wolves player with more in a single campaign is Raul Jimenez (17 in 2019-20).
Leicester City – Jamie Vardy
Vardy described Leicester's season as a total embarrassment following their defeat to Liverpool, with the veteran striker hoping to restore some pride against Wolves.
He has three goals and two assists in his 10 Premier League appearances against Wolves, though his last strike against them coming in a 1-0 win back in 2020-21.
MATCH PREDICTION: WOLVES WIN
Wolves have won each of their last five Premier League games, last having a longer run in the top flight between September and October 1970 (six).
And following a 3-0 win in the reverse fixture, Wolves are looking to complete their first league double over Leicester since the 1957-58 campaign.
Leicester, meanwhile, have won just three of their last 19 away league games against Wolves (D7 L9), though one was a 4-0 victory in their most recent visit in October 2022.
But the Foxes' struggles have been at both ends of the pitch, failing to score in a league-high 15 different Premier League games this season, only managing to do so more in the 2001-02 campaign (19).
They have also kept just one clean sheet in the Premier League this season, and have conceded in each of their last 26 matches. It's their longest run without a league clean sheet since a streak of 37 between February and December 1957.
Leicester have conceded 73 goals in the Premier League this term. It's their most in a single league season since 1994-95 (80), and most in a 20-team league since 1914-15 (88).
