Regaining confidence

Mexican striker Santiago Giménez needs to "regain confidence in his abilities" and ignore the "media pressure," which comes especially from the Latin American press, Porto coach Francesco Farioli said on Friday.

"(Giménez) is an important player who needs to regain confidence in his qualities, which are no news to anyone," Farioli said at the press conference ahead of Saturday's match against Marítimo, corresponding to the eighth round of the Liga Portugal

Being at peace

The Italian coach argued that his striker "needs to be at peace with everything around him," given "the media pressure" he is under, especially in Latin America.

"It's important to put him in a bubble, for him to stay here with his teammates, with the coaching staff, and for him to work with the support of all the fans," he added.

Santi Giménez, 25, has recently been with the Mexican national team, so he will not join Porto until this Friday

The value of Giménez

Despite his late arrival, Farioli positively valued Giménez's presence in the team led by Rafa Márquez, who lined him up in the three friendly matches that the Tri played, in one of them as a starter.

"He had more minutes than we would have given him here. It has been positive that he went there to play. Of course, he has missed training sessions, but he has time to come back, work, make an impact, and help when needed, starting from tomorrow," he said.

Giménez arrived this season at Porto on loan from AC Milan, and the Portuguese champion has been trying to help the Mexican international, who has already scored a goal in Portugal, gradually regain his physical form.

The Mexican, born in Buenos Aires (Argentina), is expected to get playing time again on Saturday during the leader's visit to Marítimo, who is in 11th place. EFE
