Cesc Fàbregas’ Future with Como Revealed
Cesc Fàbregas, head coach of Como 1907, is set to remain in charge of the Lariani next season, despite recent rumors linking him with a move to Bayer Leverkusen.
Speculation had picked up following reports of a potential domino effect in the coaching world — with Carlo Ancelotti possibly leaving for the Brazil national team, Fàbregas was being mentioned as a candidate to replace Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen, who in turn is rumored to be heading to Real Madrid. However, according to Italian outlets like Sky Sports Italia and La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Spaniard will be staying at Como, and the Italian club has already communicated this to the German side.
A Long-Term Vision
Fàbregas staying on also rules out the possible arrival of Davide Ancelotti as his successor. The former Arsenal, Barcelona, and Chelsea midfielder is not only the manager but also a shareholder in the club, with a contract running until June 2028. All signs point to him continuing at least one more season, leading a project that he’s shaped in his own image. Under his guidance, Como secured survival in Serie A with several games to spare, thanks to a run of six straight wins.
The main goal for Como in their return to the top flight was simply to avoid relegation — something they accomplished comfortably. The club invested nearly €100 million across both transfer windows, an unusually high figure for a newly promoted team. Still, money isn’t a problem for the owners: the Indonesian Hartono brothers, who are among the wealthiest people on the planet.
Eyes on the Future
With their place in Serie A secure, the club is now looking to grow and attract big-name signings. During the last winter transfer window, they even explored the possibility of bringing in Theo Hernández, the Milan left-back. On top of that, Como 1907 recently unveiled ambitious plans to renovate their stadium, beautifully located by the iconic Lake Como, one of Italy’s most famous tourist destinations.
