Dybala Successfully Undergoes Surgery and Will Begin his Recovery in Rome
Argentine forward Paulo Dybala, a key figure for Roma, underwent surgery this Tuesday due to an injury in the semitendinosus tendon of his left thigh. The operation, performed in Italy, was a success, and the player is now preparing to begin his recovery process at Trigoria, the club's training facility.
A major setback for Roma in the final stretch of the season
The injury occurred on March 16 during the match against Cagliari, when an awkward movement while attempting a backheel pass forced him to leave the field in tears, just 11 minutes after coming on as a substitute. Since then, medical evaluations determined that surgery was the best option, which also prevented him from joining the Argentina national team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Initial estimates suggest that Dybala's recovery will take approximately two months, meaning he will not be able to play for the remainder of the season, which ends on May 25. Through his social media accounts, the Argentine expressed his determination to return stronger:
"Although I will be away from the pitch for a while, I will continue to support Roma in this crucial phase of the championship and our national team. I will be back soon, even stronger, I promise. See you on the field! Forza Roma and Vamos Argentina," wrote the player.
A tough time to lose their star player
Dybala's absence is a major blow for Roma, which is currently experiencing its best form of the season. With an unbeaten record in Serie A in 2025 and leading the five major European leagues in points this year, the Roman squad had found in the ‘Joya’ one of its key driving forces.
After a difficult start to the campaign that led to the departure of coaches Daniele De Rossi and Ivan Jurić, the club managed to stabilize under Claudio Ranieri, who has guided the team to within just two points of the European spots. However, the loss of Dybala, who has played 35 matches, scored 8 goals, and provided 4 assists this season, complicates the outlook for a challenging final stretch.
Roma will have to face crucial matches without its star, including showdowns against Juventus, his former club, and Lazio in the Rome derby. Additionally, they will take on strong opponents such as Milan, Atalanta, Fiorentina, and Inter Milan, making their fight for a European competition spot even more difficult.
Despite this setback, the team remains confident in maintaining its strong form in the final weeks and fighting until the end. Meanwhile, Dybala will focus on his recovery, aiming to return in top condition for the next season.
