Kyle Walker Denies Leaving Manchester City for More Money
During his unveiling as a new player for AC Milan, Kyle Walker, former right-back of Manchester City, made it clear that his decision to join the Italian club wasn’t driven by financial reasons. “I play football for passion, not for money,” said the 34-year-old, who’s seeking a fresh challenge in his career.
A Decision Driven by New Challenges
Walker stated that choosing Milan was easy once he decided to leave City. "It’s a step forward in my career, a great opportunity to play here and showcase my talent," he explained. He also recalled witnessing Milan’s recent comeback against Parma from the stands and could make his debut this Sunday in the 'Derby della Madonnina' against Inter Milan, a special rival since it was against them that he won the Champions League in 2023.
The full-back firmly denied any clauses in his contract involving bonuses for winning the Champions League: "If we’re talking about financial bonuses... the answer is no. At City, I wasn’t playing enough, and that’s one of the reasons I came here. I want to win trophies and play more."
A Tough Goodbye with Guardiola
Walker described his conversation with Pep Guardiola before leaving as “difficult”: “City has been my family. But now I want to learn Italian and keep fighting for my goals.”
Aware of his experience and age, Walker sees himself as a leader in Milan’s locker room: "That’s what I have to do. There’s a lack of confidence tied to the results. The new coach has a good idea, and now we need discipline. I’ve won a lot, and I come with that experience." With this new chapter at Milan, Walker aims to prove he still has a lot to offer European football, both on and off the field.
