Kyle Walker's Revelations After Leaving Manchester City
Officially presented to the press this Monday as the new player of AC Milan, Kyle Walker spoke about the reasons that led him to leave Manchester City.
This winter has been anything but dull in the north of England. Struggling with inconsistent performances and unexpected results, Manchester City has opted for a squad refresh during the transfer window, hoping to get back on track for the second half of the season.
Unsurprisingly, January has been a busy month for the Sky Blues, with notable arrivals like Abdukodir Khusanov, Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis, and young prospect Christian McFarlane. However, the club has also bid farewell to one of its key veterans, Kyle Walker.
The England international, a defensive stalwart and integral figure in City’s recent successes, has decided to leave the club in search of more playing time. Despite Pep Guardiola’s admiration for the 34-year-old, Walker made the choice to join AC Milan on loan until the end of the season. Officially unveiled as a Rossoneri player on Monday, Walker explained his motivations behind this career move.
“It’s Time for a New Challenge”
Confident and determined, Walker expressed his excitement about the opportunity to join AC Milan. “Playing for Milan is fantastic. It’s a step forward in my career and a chance to try something new. I thought it would be a great opportunity to play here and showcase my talent. At my age and with my experience, I know my role is to contribute both on and off the pitch,” he stated.
Walker also acknowledged Milan’s current struggles and expressed his commitment to helping the team rebuild its confidence under new manager Sérgio Conceição. “There’s a lack of confidence due to recent results, but the coach has good ideas, and discipline is key now. My role isn’t just about playing—it’s about bringing the experience I’ve gained from winning trophies,” he added.
Ambitions at Milan
Walker’s goals with the Rossoneri are clear, and they include a shot at Champions League glory. “Winning the Champions League would be a dream. I’ve experienced both winning and losing a final, and trust me, it’s better to be on the winning side. It’s early days, but we’ll see what happens,” he said, referring to Milan’s favorable position in the competition.
Reflecting on his last months at City, Walker admitted that a lack of playing time was a significant factor in his decision to leave. “I play football out of passion, not for money. At City, I didn’t play enough, and that’s why I’m here. I want to win trophies and play more games,” he explained.
Closing the Manchester Chapter
Ending his tenure at City wasn’t easy, especially when it came to informing Guardiola. “It wasn’t an easy conversation. City has been like family to me. But now, I want to learn Italian and push myself to achieve new goals,” Walker concluded.
With his City chapter closed, Walker is ready to write a new one with AC Milan, bringing leadership, ambition, and a wealth of experience to the Rossoneri as they aim to climb back to the top.
