Lautaro Martínez Acknowledges He's in the Toughest Moment of His Career
Lautaro Martínez, the forward and captain of Inter Milan, has admitted that he's going through one of the most difficult periods of his career, highlighting a goal-scoring drought. Despite this, the Argentine forward expressed that he’s not overly worried as he is working hard and feels in the process of recovery.
From Top Scorer to Goal Drought
Lautaro Martínez went from being Inter’s top scorer with 24 goals last season to scoring just one goal in his last 9 games, with only 6 goals in Serie A so far. These numbers are far from his best form, which has raised concerns among fans. However, the captain did not seem defeated and addressed his situation with honesty in a press conference ahead of the Supercoppa Italiana final against Milan, which will be another edition of the historic "Derby della Madonnina."
"I rested little, I didn’t have the preseason preparation I wanted because there was no time. I feel different, I’ve gone through moments like this before, but in my opinion, this is the worst one. I’m getting my form back, and I’m calm even without scoring," said Martínez, revealing that he’s working to regain his level, although he still feels a bit far from his best version.
Team Effort Over Statistics
Despite his goal-scoring drought, Lautaro remains optimistic and focused on the team’s success. "I pay little attention to stats. Scoring is important, but what matters more is that Inter wins. I need to work for the team, and I’m happy we’re doing a great job," said the forward, who always looks to contribute to the team in other ways when he's not scoring.
Expectations for the Supercoppa Italiana
The Supercoppa Italiana final, which will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will see the two Milan giants battle for the first trophy of the season. Inter is considered the favorite, but the Argentine captain understands the significance of this derby. "I’m very motivated for this game because it’s a final, it’s a derby. We all know how important this game is," said Lautaro, showing his determination to do everything possible to secure the trophy.
Regarding Inter, the team will be without Marcus Thuram in the final due to an injury sustained in the semifinal against Atalanta. As a result, Mehdi Taremi will replace him in the attack, partnering with Lautaro Martínez in the offensive line.
