Fiorentina 3-0 Inter: Kean double keeps Inzaghi's visitors in second
Inter had the chance to go top of Serie A in their rescheduled trip to Fiorentina, but they were instead thrashed 3-0.
Scudetto holders Inter missed the chance to go top of Serie A as they were beaten 3-0 by Fiorentina in a rescheduled fixture on Thursday, with Moise Kean scoring twice.
The original match on December 1 was suspended when Fiorentina's Edoardo Bove collapsed on the pitch and was rushed to hospital. It was later revealed he had suffered a cardiac arrest.
The game restarted at 0-0 in the 17th minute on Thursday, with a Fiorentina throw-in. Inter knew a victory would take them ahead of league leaders Napoli on goal difference.
But Fiorentina took the lead in the 59th minute through Luca Ranieri and Kean doubled the advantage nine minutes later, heading Dodo's searching cross past Yann Sommer.
Inter never looked like fighting back and Kean wrapped up the win in the 89th minute, taking advantage of a terrible back pass from Federico Dimarco to convert into an empty net.
While Inter remain three points behind Napoli having now played the same amount of games, Fiorentina are up to fourth on 42 points, ahead of Lazio on goal difference.
Data Debrief: Nerazzurri stunned
Thursday's game represented a big chance for Inter to take the initiative in the title race. Instead, they were sent crashing to their biggest league defeat in almost six years.
This was their first defeat by at least a three-goal margin in Serie A since May 19, 2019, when they were beaten 4-1 by Napoli.
