Franco Mastantuono Reveals Why He Left Real Madrid and Chose Fiorentina

  • Franco Mastantuono explained why he decided to temporarily leave Real Madrid and join Fiorentina. The Argentine spoke about his difficult adaptation, the offers he received, and the project that ultimately convinced him.

Mastantuono Admits His First Year in Madrid Was Difficult

Franco Mastantuono broke his silence on his departure from Real Madrid and explained the reasons that led him to continue his career at Fiorentina. During his official presentation with the Italian club, the young Argentine reflected on a demanding first year in Spain, discussed the conversation he had with the Spanish club, and made it clear that his move is not a form of revenge.

During his press conference, Mastantuono admitted that his season with Real Madrid was not easy and acknowledged that the difficulties ultimately became a learning experience.

In Madrid, we all had a complicated season. It wasn't easy. These things always help you improve and learn,” the player explained.

Mastantuono also rejected any suggestion of a conflict with the club. According to his own words, the conversation with Real Madrid was “cordial and friendly,” and the decision to leave was made jointly.

Why Did He Choose Fiorentina?

The Argentine said he received interest from several clubs, but one factor ultimately tipped the balance: Fiorentina's sporting project.

When I spoke with Fiorentina and the coach, the project impressed me a lot,” Mastantuono explained, adding that he made his decision approximately one week before his arrival was officially announced.

The choice is particularly interesting because there was also the possibility of temporarily returning to River Plate, the club where he began his career. However, the Italian option ultimately prevailed because it will allow him to continue adapting to European football while competing in one of the continent's top leagues.

The player himself explained that he does not view the move as revenge against Real Madrid. His objective is much more straightforward: to play, grow, and help Fiorentina.

Batistuta, Fellow Argentines and a Decision With Deep Roots

Another factor that played a role in Mastantuono's decision was Fiorentina's strong Argentine football history. The young player specifically mentioned Gabriel Batistuta, one of the club's greatest idols.

Batistuta played here and did something incredible. I would like to make history like him,” the Argentine said, while also highlighting the advice he received from Lucas Martínez Quarta and Nicolás González.

Mastantuono also spoke about the warm welcome from the fans and acknowledged that the affection he received after arriving in the city had a positive impact on him.

Even the number 30, which he will wear during this spell, carries personal meaning: it was the shirt number he wore during his time at River.

The Real Goal: Becoming a Key Player Again

The loan move to Fiorentina can be viewed as a strategic decision for both Mastantuono and Real Madrid. The Argentine needs playing time, consistency, and an environment where he can take on greater responsibility, while the Spanish club retains control of one of its young talents.

The first sign has already arrived in the Coppa Italia, where Mastantuono made his first official appearances for the Viola. His next major challenge will be to carry that involvement into Serie A and prove that he can become a decisive player.
