Motta tight-lipped on potential Kolo Muani and Vlahovic partnership
Thiago Motta was not interested in giving away any plans he may have of starting Randal Kolo Muani and Dusan Vlahovic as strike partners.
Thiago Motta did not give anything away when asked about a potential strike partnership between Randal Kolo Muani and Dusan Vlahovic.
Juve travel to Como in Serie A on Friday, having returned to winning ways when coming from a goal down to beat struggling Empoli 4-1 on Sunday.
They had won just one of their previous eight games in all competitions prior to that, with Kolo Muani proving the difference maker last time out as his quickfire double turned the match around.
The Frenchman (three goals in two matches) could become the first Juventus player to score in each of his first three Serie A appearances in the three points for a win era (since 1994-95).
"We were all convinced about [Kolo Muani]," Motta told reporters on Thursday. "[But] I am very convinced that Randal can still do better."
The France forward has made a fast start at Juve, having scored three goals in two games after joining on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
Overall, the last player to score at least four goals in his first three Serie A games was Krzysztof Piatek for Genoa in 2018 – no one has ever netted five goals in their first three games in the competition since 1994-95.
Motta, however, did not give a clear answer when asked whether the France forward could be paired with Vlahovic, who was left on the bench in both games the Frenchman started. The Serb has scored eight goals in 19 league appearances this term.
"The most important thing is the collective," Motta added. "The team must function both defensively and offensively.
"We want to attack laterally when the others close up (and) bring three or four men into the opponent's area.
"Randal and Dusan must do the same job. When we have the chance, we must attack the depth to stretch the team. Then the minimum for [both of] them is to go into the area and score, but there is also the defensive phase.
"They must help their teammates and immediately attack the ball again. They must do many things."
Juve, who are fifth on 40 points, travel to 15th-placed Como, who are two points above the relegation zone and have won one of their last five games under manager Cesc Fabregas.
Juventus are unbeaten in their last 22 Serie A matches against Como (W13 D9), with the last win for the Lariani against the Bianconeri back in January 1952 (2-0 at Sinigaglia stadium) – this is Como's longest streak without a win against a single opponent in Serie A.
"Fabregas faces the big teams with courage and playing in attack. I have never seen Como [only] defend themselves," Motta said.
"[I expect] a complicated match. We must have maximum concentration and determination to play a great match. They have put teams like Atalanta, AC Milan and Roma in difficulty."
