The Fierce Confrontation Between Cesc Fàbregas and Massimiliano Allegri
Milan’s draw with Como was overshadowed by a heated sideline clash between their head coaches.
The match between AC Milan and Como ended in a 1-1 draw, but the final score quickly became secondary after a tense altercation between head coaches Massimiliano Allegri and Cesc Fàbregas. The game, which featured goals from Nico Paz and Rafael Leão, reached its boiling point around the 80th minute when both managers were involved in a confrontation that continued beyond the touchline.
Both teams have drawn attention in Serie A for their contrasting playing styles, and that contrast was mirrored on the sidelines during an incident that raised the temperature of the contest.
The incident that sparked the conflict
The controversy began when Cesc Fàbregas grabbed the jersey and tapped the shoulder of Alexis Saelemaekers near his technical area as the AC Milan player attempted to advance while under pressure from Rodríguez and Valle. Upon feeling the contact, the player reacted angrily.
The action infuriated Massimiliano Allegri, who stepped in to defend his player and began arguing with the Como bench. The situation escalated quickly, prompting referee Maurizio Mariani to send off the Milan coach, along with Giuseppe Calandra, Como’s team manager.
Reports indicated that Fàbregas’ instinctive gesture came amid frustration over a second yellow card that was not shown to Saelemaekers. However, the incident did not justify his conduct from the technical area.
Heated exchange in the tunnel
The confrontation did not end at full time. In the tunnel leading to the locker rooms, Allegri continued the exchange with harsh words toward the Spanish coach. According to Italian media reports, the AC Milan manager criticized Fàbregas’ actions and defended his decision to intervene in protection of his player.
After the match, Allegri remained visibly upset, acknowledging the apology but warning that interference from the sideline cannot be tolerated.
Fàbregas admits mistake and apologizes
Aware of the controversy, Cesc Fàbregas accepted responsibility for his behavior. The Como coach described his action as unsportsmanlike and expressed hope that it will not happen again.
He also revealed that he apologized to Allegri and to the players involved, including Luka Modrić and Mike Maignan, acknowledging that he acted impulsively in the heat of the moment.
