When Does the 2026–27 Serie A Season Start?
The new Serie A season begins on August 22, with defending champion Inter hosting newly promoted Monza and Udinese facing Como in the first matches of the Italian campaign.
Italian soccer is almost ready to return. The 2026/27 Serie A season will officially get underway on Saturday, August 22, when Inter hosts Monza and Udinese faces Como, with both matches kicking off at 6:30 p.m. local time. The championship will run through May 30, 2027 and once again feature 20 clubs competing across 38 matchdays.
A first weekend packed with major games

Serie A originally set the opening of the season for the weekend of August 23, but the confirmed television schedule places the first four matches on Saturday, August 22.
After Inter-Monza and Udinese-Como, the opening day continues with Genoa against Napoli and Parma hosting Cagliari at 8:45 p.m.
Sunday brings Frosinone-Juventus, Venezia-Lecce, Atalanta-Sassuolo and Torino-Milan, while Matchday 1 concludes on Monday with Bologna-Lazio and Roma-Fiorentina.
Inter begins as defending champion

Inter enters the new campaign carrying the Scudetto after winning Serie A in 2025/26. The Nerazzurri secured their 21st Italian championship and finished the season with 89 league goals, the highest total in Serie A over the previous five campaigns.
Lautaro Martínez remains one of the central figures after finishing as the league’s top scorer with 17 goals last season. Napoli, which finished second, will again be expected to challenge near the top, while Roma, Juventus, Milan and Atalanta enter the season with ambitions of competing for Champions League places and potentially joining the title race.
The first significant showdown between major contenders will arrive quickly: Inter hosts Napoli on September 5, while Juventus faces Milan the following day.
Three clubs return to Serie A

The 2026/27 season welcomes Venezia, Frosinone and Monza back to Italy’s top flight.
Venezia and Frosinone earned direct promotion from Serie B, while Monza secured the final place through the promotion playoffs. Monza’s return comes only one year after relegation, and its first challenge could hardly be tougher: an away match against defending champion Inter.
They replace Cremonese, Hellas Verona and Pisa, who were relegated at the end of 2025/26.
When does Serie A end?
The final round of the 2026/27 Serie A season is scheduled for May 30, 2027. The calendar also includes two midweek rounds, on October 28 and January 6, plus a Christmas break on the weekend of December 27.
For now, August 22 is the date to circle. Inter will begin its title defense against Monza, officially bringing Serie A soccer back after the summer break.
