Fenerbahçe Bolsters Squad: Diego Carlos Joins Mourinho's Team
Fenerbahçe, one of Turkey's most decorated clubs, officially announced on Thursday the signing of Brazilian defender Diego Carlos, formerly of Sevilla and Aston Villa, on a three-and-a-half-year contract. The move strengthens José Mourinho's squad as the Portuguese manager aims to secure domestic and international success.
A Return to European Prominence
At 31, Diego Carlos brings a wealth of experience to Fenerbahçe's backline. The Brazilian defender has had a noteworthy career with stints at Estoril Praia, Nantes, and most notably Sevilla, where he won the 2019-2020 Europa League. During his recent tenure at Aston Villa, Diego Carlos played 17 matches, including six in the Champions League, reaffirming his reputation as a top-tier player.
The Turkish club had hinted at the move earlier this week, and the deal was finalized today. However, the financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
Lincoln Henrique Loaned to Hull City
Meanwhile, Fenerbahçe has agreed to loan Brazilian midfielder Lincoln Henrique to Hull City in England’s Championship until the end of the season. Lincoln, who joined Fenerbahçe in 2022 from Portugal's Santa Clara, had previously been loaned to Brazil's Bragantino.
This series of moves highlights Fenerbahçe's ambition to solidify its squad under Mourinho's leadership and compete at the highest level.
