Galatasaray reportedly trying to lure Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez away from Aston Villa
Galatasaray has reportedly set its sights on Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, according to Bolavip and TyC Sports. After sealing the signing of Leroy Sané from Bayern Munich, the Turkish giants are aiming to keep boosting their squad with big names ahead of the upcoming season, where they’ll compete in the UEFA Champions League. With club legend Fernando Muslera leaving after over a decade, the Turkish champs are now on the lookout for a top-level goalkeeper.
A chance amid Aston Villa’s financial shake-up
Interest in Dibu is growing as Aston Villa tries to balance the books due to Premier League Financial Fair Play regulations. Reports say the Villans could be open to selling him for somewhere between $32 and $43 million, a price Galatasaray might be willing to pay thanks to recent player sales and their Champions League qualification.
At 32 years old and as a World Cup winner with Argentina, Martínez wants to keep playing at the highest European level. His top choice is to remain in the Premier League, with Manchester United seen as his ideal move. But since André Onana is still the starter, the English club hasn’t made any real moves yet—leaving the door open for the Turkish side.
Champions League football is a big factor
It’s not an easy call. Dibu knows that moving to Turkey might mean less exposure, especially now that he’s trying to stay sharp for the 2026 World Cup. Even so, the chance to play in the Champions League and be part of a bold project led by players like Mauro Icardi could be key in tipping the scales.
Right now, Galatasaray and Aston Villa are in talks. There’s no deal yet, but it looks like the Istanbul club is ready to make a serious financial push to land Dibu Martínez as their new number one. If the deal goes through, Martínez would become one of the cornerstones of the new-look Galatasaray for the 2025–26 season. Meanwhile, the Argentine keeper is weighing his options carefully, focused on staying competitive, winning trophies, and keeping his starting spot with the national team.
