Galatasaray to Sue Mourinho Over Controversial Comments
Galatasaray has decided to take legal action against Fenerbahçe head coach José Mourinho over his statements during the post-match press conference following the 0-0 draw in the Istanbul derby. The club considers the Portuguese coach's words to be racist and has announced that they will file a criminal complaint, as well as take the case to UEFA and FIFA.
Mourinho’s Statements and Galatasaray’s Reaction
During his press conference, Mourinho praised the refereeing of Slovenian official Slavko Vincic and criticized the Turkish refereeing system. "If the referee had been Turkish, this would have been a total disaster," said the Portuguese coach. However, the most controversial remark came when he commented on the reaction from the opposing bench: "They were jumping like monkeys after every correct decision."
Following these comments, Galatasaray released an official statement strongly condemning Mourinho’s words. "Since his arrival in Turkey, he has repeatedly made disrespectful remarks. Today, his words have crossed an unacceptable line," the club stated. They also confirmed that a legal process against the coach has begun and that they will escalate the matter to international governing bodies.
Okan Buruk’s Response and Possible Consequences
Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk quickly responded, downplaying Mourinho’s comments. "Let him keep crying," Buruk said sarcastically, suggesting that the Portuguese coach was overreacting in his post-match criticism. However, the Turkish manager also expressed his dissatisfaction with the refereeing, albeit from a different perspective.
For now, neither Mourinho nor Fenerbahçe has issued an official response regarding Galatasaray’s legal action. The situation could lead to sanctions for the Portuguese coach, depending on the decision of the relevant authorities.
