José Mourinho Could Rescue Ex-Barcelona’s Joao Félix, Who Never Lived Up to Expectations
The history of football is filled with talented players who failed to reach their expected potential, and Joao Félix seems to be on his way to joining that list. Once considered one of the most expensive signings in Atlético de Madrid's history, Joao Félix was acquired by Chelsea for 54 million dollars this summer. However, he is now being linked with a loan move to a smaller league.
Chelsea Fails to Resurrect Him
At just 25 years old, the former FC Barcelona player has had a marginal role under Enzo Maresca at Chelsea. Of the nine Premier League matches he’s played, he has started only twice, while in five others, he didn't play a single minute. This makes it clear that Joao Félix is not considered a key player in the team’s setup. In fact, of the attacking players in the first team, only Marc Guiu has played fewer minutes than the Portuguese.
Is Joao Félix Heading to Turkey?
This situation could be taken advantage of by José Mourinho, who seems interested in bringing Joao Félix to Fenerbahçe in January. According to Turkish sources, the Portuguese coach wants to strengthen his team with the young forward to close the points gap with Galatasaray, the current leader of the Turkish league. Although Mourinho recently underwent gallbladder surgery in Portugal, Joao Félix is said to be his top priority for the winter transfer window.
Interestingly, Fenerbahçe is also close to signing Anderson Talisca, but Mourinho prefers to bet on the Portuguese player. Although Joao Félix earns more than Talisca, a loan deal could be more affordable for the Turkish club, allowing them to save money. Joao Félix's future depends on his willingness to accept another loan move, even if it means relocating to Turkey in search of more playing time.
