Mauro Icardi vs José Mourinho: The Social Media Back-and-Forth
José Mourinho, the Fenerbahçe manager, and Mauro Icardi, the Argentine striker for Galatasaray, have thrown some playful jabs at each other on social media this Tuesday, accusing each other's team of playing "handball."
Mourinho’s First Shot
"My Portugal brilliantly reached the semifinals of the Handball World Cup that ended last Sunday, and I want to congratulate them for this achievement and the impact it has on the youth of the country," Mourinho wrote in English on his Instagram account. However, the accompanying photo shows Davinson Sánchez, the Colombian defender for Galatasaray (former Ajax and Tottenham player), during last night’s match against Gaziantep, with the ball seemingly brushing against his raised hand.
Galatasaray’s 1-0 victory puts them at 57 points in the Superliga, 8 points ahead of Fenerbahçe, who are in second place.
Icardi Responds: 'The Crying One'
A few hours later, Icardi posted a photo on his Instagram of a Fenerbahçe match with a similar ball position and the words "Handball World Cup," accompanied by laughing emojis.
Icardi also shared a meme, originally circulating on social media in September after a Fenerbahçe loss to Galatasaray, showing Mourinho crying with the caption "The Crying One," a twist on Mourinho's iconic nickname, "The Special One." The rivalry between the two teams continues to heat up both on and off the field, with this social media battle only intensifying the tension between the two clubs.
