The Season Is Over for Fenerbahçe: Is Mourinho's Tenure a Failure?
Fenerbahçe crashed once again against Galatasaray and ended its hopes of winning a title this season
Last night, Galatasaray nailed the final coffin in the season Fenerbahçe is having under José Mourinho, who became the center of attention once again at the end of the match and is now facing the risk of a severe sanction. Before that, they were unable to overcome the early brace by Osimhen in front of their home crowd and, unless a huge surprise occurs, they will not lift any titles this season after being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Turkish Cup. Is Mourinho's time in Turkey a disappointment?

Fenerbahçe's ambitious plans with Mourinho
The truth is that, with José Mourinho's arrival last summer, Fenerbahçe made a bold move to try to close the gap with Galatasaray in the SüperLig. To achieve this, they made big signings in the summer market, bringing in players like Söyuncü, Ambarat, Kostic, Saint-Maximin, and En-Nesyri, with Diego Carlos, Skriniar, and Talisca joining the team in the winter.
With a spending spree close to 70 million euros and the only significant departure being Kadioglu, it’s clear that Fenerbahçe's plans were highly ambitious, and they built a team tailored to Mourinho's needs… who already had players like Livakovic, Muldur, Fred, Tadic, and Dzeko. However, the first disappointment came in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League, where they were eliminated by Lille.
Can Fenerbahçe overcome Galatasaray in the SüperLig?
Condemned to play in the Europa League, Fenerbahçe eventually qualified for the ‘playoffs’ on goal difference over Sporting Braga, having conceded one goal less. In the end, they managed to get past Anderlecht thanks to the advantage they built up in Turkey. However, Rangers stood in their way in the Round of 16, and once again, the penalty curse sealed Mourinho's fate.
A few weeks earlier, they lost the chance to close the gap at the top of the SüperLig after drawing with Galatasaray, a team they have not managed to defeat this year… Galatasaray is six points ahead with one game in hand, with nine matches remaining. Obviously, everything is still open, and Mourinho will do everything possible to ensure Fenerbahçe wins the league title. But with only one loss all season to Besiktas, it seems unlikely that Galatasaray will drop points again.
