Manchester City welcomed Real Madrid to the Etihad Stadium for the first of two matches in the Champions League Playoff stage.

Erling Haaland's first goal in his fifth encounter against Real Madrid gave Manchester City a 1-0 lead at halftime after a first half in which Vinícius Jr. struck the crossbar.

A goal from Brahim Díaz in the 86th minute and another from Jude Bellingham in added time overturned Erling Haaland's brace, securing Real Madrid's first-ever win at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City (2-3).

Real Madrid delivered their best performance of the season, bouncing back from Haaland's strikes. The Norwegian scored the first goal in the 19th minute, which was equalized by Kylian Mbappé in the 61st minute, who has scored in all three of his appearances at the Etihad.

After missing clear chances to take control of the tie, a penalty by Dani Ceballos put City ahead again in the 80th minute, but the late Madrid reaction sealed the win in the pre-quarterfinals with goals from Brahim and Bellingham.
