Arsenal FC made a powerful statement in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, thrashing PSV Eindhoven 1-7 in the first leg. Despite missing a center forward, Mikel Arteta placed his trust in Mikel Merino as the main reference in the box, and he scored a goal. Youth players Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri also shined, while captain Martin Ødegaard grabbed a brace.

The first goal came from Jurrien Timber, who capitalized on a cross from Declan Rice. Then, Nwaneri and Merino extended the lead, and although Lang pulled one back from the penalty spot for PSV, Arsenal kept up the pressure. In the second half, Ødegaard and Trossard sealed the win with more goals, leaving PSV with no chance.

With the 1-7 result, Arsenal has practically secured their place in the quarter-finals. Unless PSV manages an incredible comeback, the second leg at the Emirates Stadium will be a mere formality for the Londoners.
