Alisson Becker, Is He the Best Goalkeeper in the World?
His crucial saves kept his team in the game, leading his coach, Arne Slot, to call him “the best goalkeeper in the world.”
Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker, from Liverpool, stole the spotlight with a stellar performance in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain.
A Wall Against PSG
Alisson faced over twenty shots from the Parisian side and made eight key saves, frustrating their relentless attack. Thanks to his heroics, Liverpool secured a late victory with a goal from Harvey Elliott.
"I've coached great players, but I've never had the best goalkeeper in the world—until now. Today, he proved he's the best. Winning was probably more than we deserved," said Slot after the triumph at Parc des Princes.
Praise from a Legend
Former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, working as a pundit during the match, didn’t hold back in his praise, calling Alisson’s performance "one of the best" he has ever seen.
For his part, the Brazilian goalkeeper acknowledged the significance of the match: "It was the game of my life. The coach told us it would be very tough against PSG, that they are very good with the ball, and that we would have to suffer a lot. We knew it would be like that."
"We worked really hard but gave them too many chances, including one-on-ones. Still, with all the effort my teammates put in, my job was much easier. In the end, Harvey scored, and it's a great story for us. It was a fantastic night," Alisson concluded.
