Guardiola Sends Clear Warning to City Players Before Facing Real Madrid
Manchester City faces a daunting challenge after the 3-0 loss in Madrid. Ahead of the second leg, Pep Guardiola sent a blunt message to his players.
Guardiola demands belief from his players
Pep Guardiola delivered a blunt message to his Manchester City squad ahead of their decisive clash with Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. After the heavy 3-0 defeat at the Santiago Bernabéu, the Spanish manager made it clear that doubt is not acceptable inside the dressing room.
Guardiola warned that any player who does not believe in the comeback should simply stay home. “If they don’t believe, it’s a problem. They’re adults and they earn good salaries. If they don’t believe in this in the Champions League, they should go home and stay there,” the coach said.
A nearly impossible mission against Real Madrid
The task ahead looks extremely difficult for Manchester City, and Guardiola himself acknowledged the magnitude of the challenge. Speaking to reporters, the Catalan coach noted that even Real Madrid, the most successful club in the competition’s history, has never managed to overturn a 3-0 deficit in the tournament.
“What do we have to lose? We have to try,” Guardiola said. At the same time, he admitted how unlikely the scenario seems. “Is there anyone in this room who believes we can come back against Madrid? No one. It’s impossible.”
Playing for pride and respect
Despite the difficult situation, Guardiola insists his team must still fight until the very end. For the manager, Manchester City has a responsibility to compete with pride for the club, the fans and the work done throughout the season.
He stressed that football often produces unexpected moments and that his players must approach the match with conviction, even if the first leg left the tie heavily tilted in Madrid’s favor.
Guardiola also hints at his future
Amid ongoing speculation about his future, Guardiola also addressed his situation at Manchester City. The coach indicated that his intention is to continue leading the project.
“I like my team. I like it. We will continue until the end and next season we will return,” Guardiola said in comments published on the club’s official website.
With the tie hanging by a thread, Manchester City now faces one of the toughest challenges of the Guardiola era, as the manager demands absolute belief from his players in pursuit of what many consider an impossible comeback.
