Hakimi Shines for PSG Making Real Madrid Regret Letting Him Go
Achraf Hakimi has long been regarded as one of the best full-backs in the world, but the good news for Paris Saint-Germain is that he continues to prove it match after match. In this sense, the consistency he has found is more valuable than flashes of brilliance in only a few games.
Fortunately for PSG, that hasn’t been the case. Under Luis Enrique, like many of his teammates, Hakimi is finding his best version. A clear example of this is the numbers he’s putting up in the Champions League.
Star-level stats for Achraf Hakimi
The Moroccan international has been involved in seven PSG goals in the Champions League—scoring twice and providing five assists. Those are the best numbers by a defender in the tournament since the 2017-2018 season, when Marcelo tallied three goals and four assists for Real Madrid.
Speaking of Real Madrid, they surely must regret letting Hakimi go, as he has grown over the years into the elite player he is today.
PSG squeeze through to Champions League semifinals
Luis Enrique’s side had a tough outing in the second leg, losing 3-2, but advanced with a 5-4 aggregate score. They now await the winner of the Arsenal vs. Real Madrid tie in the semifinals. PSG will have to reflect on how they managed the game, as they went from a comfortable 2-0 lead to a 3-2 deficit that nearly saw them eliminated.
The good news? They’re through to the semifinals and one step closer to a potential final.
