Jhon Durán Speak About his Competition with Watkins for a Starting Spot at Aston Villa
Jhon Durán, forward for Aston Villa, expressed his satisfaction with the competition against Ollie Watkins for a starting spot in the first XI, saying he's very happy at the Birmingham club.
Durán scored a goal and had another ruled out in the 45 minutes he played during the 2-3 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League. The Colombian forward replaced Watkins in the second half, after the English striker assisted in John McGinn’s goal to open the scoring.
Healthy competition at Aston Villa
"We've worked hard as a team, and my job is to score. The most important thing was the three points away from home," Durán told Amazon Prime. "I'm very happy to be here and I love the competition with Watkins. When it’s my turn, I try to step up, hope to score goals, and help the team," he added.
Durán also scored the winning goal against Southampton over the weekend, breaking a nine-game goal drought. This poor run coincided with a tough period for the Birmingham side, who went nine games without a win between October 30 and December 4, when they secured their victory over Brentford. Currently, the team managed by Unai Emery is almost certain to qualify for the Champions League round of 16, sitting third with 13 points, while in the Premier League, they hold sixth place with 25 points, just two behind the Champions League spots.
