Jonathan David Writes His Name in Champions League History with Lille
Jonathan David became Lille's all-time top scorer in European competitions
Despite taking the lead right from the start of the match, Lille was unable to hold on to their advantage in the tie and, after being the standout team of the group stage in the Champions League, they were eliminated by Lille in the round of 16. However, Jonathan David could leave a little less sad because he wrote his name with Lille in Champions League history.

Jonathan David's numbers in Europe
In fact, it was his goal that put Lille ahead in the tie just five minutes into the game, taking advantage of a blunder from Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. A goal that was incredibly special, not only because of its importance in the tie’s development, but also because it made Jonathan David the all-time top scorer in European competitions for Lille.
In total, Jonathan David has scored 13 goals in European competitions since he joined Lille in the summer of 2020 from Gent for 27 million euros. Undoubtedly, he has justified the investment, as 10 of those 13 goals came in the Champions League… seven of which in the current edition. Additionally, he has also provided two assists.
Jonathan David's dream is Barcelona
His victims have included top teams such as Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid, Juventus, Liverpool, Feyenoord, and, ultimately, Borussia Dortmund. A stellar performance in a competition like the Champions League by Jonathan David, who must have convinced Europe’s top clubs to bet on him next summer.
It’s worth noting that, after Lille's refusal to sell him in the past winter transfer market, Jonathan David will leave Stade Pierre Mauroy next summer as a free agent… unless an unexpected plot twist occurs. He admitted that "his dream is to play for Barcelona." But, for now, no moves have been made.
