Joselu backs Real Madrid to pull off comeback against Arsenal in the Champions League
Joselu Mato, the man who sent Real Madrid to the Champions League final last season, said on Sunday that he definitely believes Carlo Ancelotti’s side can turn things around against Arsenal, despite the 3–0 defeat in the first leg of the quarterfinals.
“If any team can do it, it’s Real Madrid”
Now playing for Al-Gharafa in Qatar, Joselu famously scored twice in the dying minutes to knock out Bayern Munich in last season’s dramatic semifinal comeback — a run that ended with Madrid lifting the trophy after beating Borussia Dortmund in the final.
“If there’s one team in the world that can do it, it’s Real Madrid. Last week, everyone had them out, but as the match gets closer, people start having doubts again,” Joselu told DAZN from the Lusail circuit, just before the Qatar MotoGP Grand Prix kicked off.
The Bernabéu factor and unshakable belief
“I think Madrid has something special, especially at the Bernabéu. If they score early, the stadium gets behind them... and we all know what happens then. We’re all confident and hoping they go through,” added the Spanish striker.
Real Madrid will host Arsenal this Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. GMT). To make the semifinals and keep their title defense alive, they’ll need a historic comeback — winning by at least four goals after the heavy defeat at the Emirates Stadium.
