Kylian Mbappé picks up injury in Champions League, doubtful for Copa del Rey final vs Barcelona
French star Kylian Mbappé will undergo medical tests after picking up a mild right ankle sprain, according to sources at the club quoted by EFE, following the Champions League quarterfinal second leg in which Real Madrid were knocked out by Arsenal.
Scare moment: clash with Declan Rice
The former Paris Saint-Germain forward left the Santiago Bernabéu in the 75th minute after twisting his ankle in a challenge with English midfielder Declan Rice. The score was 1-1 at that point (4-1 on aggregate for Arsenal), and Mbappé headed straight to the locker room, struggling to put weight on his right leg.
Early examinations suggest it’s just a mild sprain, and sources say it doesn’t seem too serious. However, Mbappé is set to undergo further tests on Friday to confirm the full extent of the injury.
Back for Getafe — or saved for the Copa final?
In any case, Mbappé was already going to miss Real Madrid’s next LaLiga EA Sports match against Athletic Club this Sunday, due to a suspension following his red card in the previous game against Alavés. It all depends on the medical report, but his return could come as soon as April 23 when Real Madrid visit Getafe, or possibly in time for the Copa del Rey final against F.C. Barcelona, scheduled for Saturday, April 26.
