Laporta dodges talk of Barcelona winning the treble
Barça's president is proud of the team's form, but isn’t getting ahead of himself
“Anything’s possible, but we haven’t won anything yet”
Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, chose not to comment on the possibility of the men’s first team securing a historic treble this season — LaLiga, Champions League, and Copa del Rey — though he did express pride in how the team is performing.
“I don’t like talking about that kind of stuff. What I can say is that we’re working really well. I’m very happy with the commitment and talent of our players, and with the amazing leadership of Hansi Flick,” the Barça president told the media during a visit to the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. He emphasized that the squad has stayed true to the “Barça style and identity,” and even though they’re still alive in all competitions by mid-April, “nothing has been won yet.”
Full trust in Flick and his coaching staff
Laporta also talked about the team’s fitness levels, praising the way Hansi Flick and his staff are managing things: “He’s got everything under control, down to the last detail. He’s turning this club into a truly competitive team.”
With Barça set to face Celta Vigo at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium this Saturday, Laporta is also looking forward to the outcome of the Bayern Munich vs Inter Milan tie — the winner will be their semifinal opponent in the Champions League.
When asked about Real Madrid possibly getting knocked out by Arsenal, Laporta didn’t hold back: “Cut it out and let me enjoy the semifinal! I always watch football — I love it — and even more now that we’ve made it through. What matters most is that Barça is in the semis.”
