Live Blog! Bayern Munich vs Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League Quarterfinals
LAUTAROOOOOOAL, INTER STRIKES FIRST
Bayern Munich hosts Inter Milan this Tuesday at the Allianz Arena in a crucial match for the UEFA Champions League. The Germans are facing up to seven injuries, with Jamal Musiala's absence being the most significant, as he'll miss the rest of the season due to a muscle injury. Other key players out include Manuel Neuer, Dayot Upamecano, Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Ito, Aleksandar Pavlović, and Kingsley Coman, forcing Vincent Kompany to rely on his "B team." In defense, the options are limited: Minjae Kim and Eric Dier are expected to form the center-back duo, while the left-back spot will likely be filled by Josip Stanišić or Raphaël Guerreiro. To cover Musiala's absence, Thomas Müller, Serge Gnabry, Michal Olise, or even Guerreiro could step into the attacking midfield role. In the double pivot, Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka will probably start, though João Palhinha could also be an option for a more defensive role.
Inter Looks to Its History and Lautaro for Inspiration
Inter Milan, finalists in 2023 and champions in 2010, is hoping to replicate its 2010 treble-winning season under José Mourinho. Simone Inzaghi's team has only one injury, with Denzel Dumfries ruled out and Matteo Darmian expected to fill in. They also have key players like Lautaro Martínez, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Thuram, and former Bayern players like Yann Sommer and Benjamin Pavard. Lautaro, freshly recovered from an injury, is hoping to score his first-ever goal against Bayern. Despite a recent draw against Parma, the Serie A leaders are motivated and looking to push hard in the final stretch of the season.
A Rivalry with Memorable Chapters
The last time these two teams met was in the 2022 group stage, with Bayern winning both legs (0-2 at San Siro and 2-0 at Allianz Arena). However, the most memorable chapter for Inter was in 2010, when they beat Bayern in the final thanks to a brace from Diego Milito, capping off their historic treble. Another notable clash was in the 2011 round of 16, when Goran Pandev scored the decisive goal. In very different circumstances for both teams, this upcoming match promises to add a new chapter to the rivalry between two European giants.
