Luis Enrique Showers Praise on Ousmane Dembélé’s Incredible Form
Luis Enrique Martínez, head coach of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), was full of praise on Monday for Ousmane Dembélé, highlighting that his recent goals are "typical of a No. 9" rather than a traditional winger, his usual position.
"We all knew Ousmane as a winger. Now he can start wide or inside, and that’s a positive thing. His ability to move inside the box has been surprising, something more typical of a striker," said the Spanish coach in the pre-match press conference ahead of the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Brest, which will take place at the Roudourou Stadium in Guingamp.
With 21 goals in 27 matches across all competitions, Dembélé has become PSG’s main offensive reference following the imminent departure of Kylian Mbappé.
A PSG Side That Still Needs to Improve
"Even he didn’t expect these numbers, but that’s the beauty of being part of a team. You align your playing style with your teammates," explained Luis Enrique, also giving credit to the players who have provided key assists for Dembélé’s goals.
Looking ahead to Tuesday’s clash, he acknowledged that PSG is the favorite but warned about Brest’s ability to spring a surprise. "Every match against Brest has been tough, both home and away. It doesn’t matter how much of an advantage you have—they can score two goals in two minutes," said the former Spain coach.
Finally, Luis Enrique emphasized that his team still has room for improvement defensively, an essential factor in progressing further in the tournament.
