Luka Modric Met Eternity in the Champions League
Luka Modric broke several longevity records in the victory of Real Madrid against Atlético de Madrid
In the summer of 2013, José Mourinho became obsessed with signing Luka Modric, and eventually, Florentino Pérez fulfilled his wishes by taking him from Tottenham. 12 years later, few could have imagined that he would become one of the greatest legends of Real Madrid. Last night, against Atlético de Madrid and at 39 years old, he once again met eternity in the Champions League.

Two more Champions League records for Modric
With the injury to Dani Ceballos, Ancelotti has been forced to rely more than initially expected on Luka Modric, who last night became the field player with the most appearances in Champions League history after turning 39, with a total of 12. Behind him, he has left names like his former teammate Pepe and the Scotsman David Weir.
It wasn't the only record Luka Modric surpassed, as he also tied with a legend like Raúl González and became the third player of Real Madrid with the most Champions League matches, with a total of 132. In the quarterfinals against Arsenal, he will surpass Karim Benzema's 133, and ahead of him, he will only have Iker Casillas's 152 matches.
Will Modric renew with Real Madrid?
With his future still unresolved, it seems almost impossible for him to surpass Karim Benzema as the foreign player with the most matches in Real Madrid history. There is a 70-match difference. “It means a lot to me. At my age, the end is near. But I still feel good. I want to keep going, but we’ll see how much time,” he confessed after the game.
Carlo Ancelotti has repeated on numerous occasions that, if it were up to him, he would already be renewed. But, as has been happening in recent years, Luka Modric's situation at Real Madrid will be resolved at the end of the season. What’s clear is that “he feels good and is always willing to help.” But, whatever happens, he will continue making history in the Champions League.
