Marquinhos Issues Sharp Self-criticism after PSG Loss in Champions League
The Brazilian center-back was not happy with the result in the first leg of the semi-final against Dortmund, but he is confident they can turn it around at home.
Marquinhos, the Brazilian defender for Paris Saint-Germain, stated on Wednesday, after losing 1-0 to Borussia Dortmund, that his team should have prevented Füllkrug's goal because they had talked about avoiding such goals during the week.
Füllkrug capitalized on a long pass from Schlotterbeck in the 36th minute, taking advantage of the space behind Lucas Hernández and Marquinhos. The PSG center-back lamented the way Dortmund scored.
"In the first half, we fell short of what we needed to do. We knew how difficult it would be here, with a crowd that provides a lot of energy. They scored a goal that we discussed all week should not happen, and it did," he said in an interview with Movistar Plus.
Marquinhos also discussed the match and noted that both teams played 90 minutes where both sides aimed to attack, recover the ball, and play very offensively.
"We all expected that. It was a frustrating result. We had good chances in the second half, and for the second leg, we need to improve on the details that make the difference," he pointed out.
"This is still wide open. With our home crowd and on our field, we know we can do a lot. We have to convert the chances we get and turn around the score if we want to make it to the final," he concluded.
