Rüdiger and Mbappé Avoid Suspension, Will Face Arsenal in Champions League
UEFA issues fines but no immediate bans for Real Madrid players after post-match incident at the Metropolitano.
Fines Handed Down, but No Playing Time Lost
UEFA’s Disciplinary Committee has announced monetary fines for several Real Madrid players, including Antonio Rüdiger and Kylian Mbappé, for violating basic conduct rules during their celebrations following the Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Atlético de Madrid.
Rüdiger has been fined €40,000 and Mbappé €30,000. Both players have also received one-match suspensions, though they are conditionally suspended and will only be enforced in case of repeat offenses within the next 12 months. The investigation stemmed from their post-match conduct after Real Madrid secured a 2-4 victory on penalties, following a 1-0 regulation win for Atlético.
Ceballos Also Fined, Vinícius Not Penalized
Midfielder Dani Ceballos, who did not take part in the match but joined in the celebrations, has been fined €20,000. Meanwhile, Vinícius Júnior, who was also under review, was cleared and will face no sanctions.
UEFA’s Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector reviewed conduct at the north end of the Metropolitano Stadium, where Real Madrid players celebrated qualification with traveling fans, during which objects were thrown from the stands. The committee deemed some player gestures inappropriate but stopped short of issuing competitive bans.
Boost for Ancelotti Ahead of Key Clash
The decision allows head coach Carlo Ancelotti to rely on a nearly full squad for the crucial first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The only confirmed absence will be Aurélien Tchouaméni, suspended due to yellow card accumulation.
With Rüdiger, Mbappé, Vinícius, and potentially Ceballos available, Real Madrid heads into the clash with added confidence as they aim to continue their pursuit of European glory.
