The Real Madrid Player Who Responded to Diego Simeone's Frustration
Diego Pablo Simeone did not hide his frustration after Atlético de Madrid was eliminated from the Champions League by Real Madrid in a penalty shootout. The Argentine coach expressed pride in his team but questioned the referee’s decision to disallow Julián Álvarez’s penalty, arguing that there was no clear evidence that the forward had touched the ball twice.
"Raise your hand if you saw Julián hit the ball twice," challenged Simeone during the post-match press conference. After a few seconds of silence, he added: "Nobody raises their hand."
However, Real Madrid did not take long to respond. Dani Ceballos, who was not included in the squad due to injury, subtly trolled Simeone on social media.
Dani Ceballos’ Subtle Dig at Simeone
The Spanish midfielder, watching the game from the bench alongside the unselected players, posted an emoji of a raised hand on his social media, implying that he had seen Álvarez touch the ball twice.
His response quickly went viral, sparking mixed reactions among fans of both teams.
A Rivalry with History: Ceballos vs. Simeone
This was not the first time Simeone and Ceballos had exchanged indirect jabs. A few weeks ago, the Atlético coach took a swipe at Real Madrid after a controversial incident in the Copa del Rey match against Celta Vigo, where a potential penalty for the Galician side was not awarded before Kylian Mbappé scored.
"What happened against Celta has been happening for 100 years, I don't know why they're surprised," said Simeone at the time.
