Will Fede Valverde play in the Champions League? Here’s what Ancelotti said
The big question surrounding the Real Madrid lineup for their upcoming first-leg clash against Atlético de Madrid in the Champions League is whether Fede Valverde will be available. Carlo Ancelotti will clear up this uncertainty after Monday’s evening training session, admitting that the Uruguayan has "good feelings" and confirming the starting spots for Raúl Asencio and Eduardo Camavinga.
The physical condition of Fede Valverde
"He trained individually yesterday and had good feelings. He will train with the team today, and after the session, we’ll decide whether he can play or not," explained Ancelotti when asked about Fede Valverde's fitness.
The Uruguayan has missed Real Madrid's last three matches due to physical issues, and Ancelotti's starting lineup is still depending on his progress. If Valverde isn’t fit in time for the match and a right-back has to be chosen, the Italian coach made it clear that Lucas Vázquez would play ahead of Asencio.
Confirmation of the starting spots for Raúl Asencio and Camavinga
After being subbed off at halftime in the Copa del Rey against Real Sociedad and not playing in La Liga against Betis, Carletto made it clear that Asencio would start against Atlético de Madrid as a center-back. "We have to consider the players who’ve had rest and who may get more opportunities tomorrow, like Raúl and Camavinga. We need to look at these things, and that’s it. We’re not going to reinforce the midfield by removing a forward. We have to stick with the same idea," said the Real Madrid coach, making it clear he wouldn’t change the tactical setup.
