Fabregas not getting carried away after Como's debut Champions League win

Cesc Fabregas insisted he would not get carried away after Como's Champions League win over RB Leipzig on Thursday.

Martin Baturina, Tasos Douvikas, Assane Diao and Maximo Perrone all got on the scoresheet as Como thrashed Leipzig 4-1 at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

Como became the 12th Italian side to play in the Champions League and just the fourth to win their debut match in the competition, after Juventus, AC Milan and Udinese.

Como also became just the second Italian side to score 4+ goals in their first European Cup/Champions League game, after Sampdoria beat Rosenborg 5-0 in September 1991.

It was a dominant performance from Fabregas's side, who created six Opta-defined big chances to Leipzig's two and also won the expected goals (xG) battle by 2.3 to 1.42.

Douvikas became the first Greek player to score on his Champions League debut since Evangelos Mantzios for Panathinaikos against Werder Bremen in September 2005, while Baturina became just the second Croatian player to score and assist in multiple Champions League games, after Mislav Orsic.

Fabregas acknowledged the importance of Como's victory, but he reiterated that Serie A is where their priority lies.

"I am happy, but it will only last five minutes, because then we have to prepare against Parma on Monday, and we need the same energy as tonight," Fabregas told Sky Sport Italia.

"Obviously, I understand it is a historic night for the city and the club, it is a gift that we deserved for the incredible work we did last season. 

"But Serie A remains the most important target. It is, after all, what allows you to get back into the Champions League.

"We are a young team, we are boosted by the Champions League energy, but I'd be really angry if we then didn’t give our all in Serie A.

"We must be humble and be able to perform every three days, it will be a very tough season, and we must maintain the right mentality."

Elsewhere in the Champions League, Lens pulled off a stunning comeback to defeat 10-man Slavia Prague 3-2.

After Danijel Sturm's second goal of the game put the Czech side 2-1 up in the 88th minute, Florian Thauvin and Ruben Aguilar both scored in stoppage time to give Lens all three points.

With their equaliser timed at 90:47, Lens trailed at a later point than any other team that has gone on to win an away Champions League game (excluding extra time).
